Students in SPIRE are assessed individually to ensure concept mastery.

• Pre- & Post-Level Test—assesses student mastery of all level concepts. Results can be compared to show gains at the end of a level.
• Mid-Level Test—assesses student mastery of the concepts taught in the first half of the level, checking spelling and decoding skills concept-by-concept.
• Concept Assessments—assesses students' mastery of a specific lesson concept.
• Concept Mastery Fluency Drills—provides a score of words correct per minute (WCPM).
• In printed SPIRE, students are assessed in a paper test, and data is collected on a recording form kept with the student's daily work binder.
