District Administration Article from Dr. Janine Walker-Caffrey of EPS Learning

At EPS Learning, we’re dedicated to providing schools and districts with evidence-based literacy approaches to meet every learner’s needs. We’re thrilled to announce that our Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Janine Walker-Caffrey, has recently published an article in District Administration that re-examines how we address dyslexia in our schools.

School districts expend tremendous resources assessing students for reading difficulties, including dyslexia. Dr. Walker-Caffrey advocates for a shift in focus—from identifying dyslexia to enhancing instructional practices that support all struggling readers.

In "Rethinking Dyslexia: Shifting Our Focus from Diagnosis to Instruction," Dr. Walker-Caffrey highlights the importance of realigning instructional methods to benefit most students, including students with dyslexia. Science of reading research tells us that about 95% of all students should be able to read proficiently by fourth grade. Before pulling students out for intervention or assigning labels, it’s crucial to first evaluate and enhance our literacy practices.
